Event Details

The 116th Annual Potato Day event is a celebration of the formation of the Colorado Potato Growers’ Exchange–formed in 1923 from local cooperatives and housed in the building on 4th and Main Street. Potato Day has now become Potato Days with a weekend full of events and activities including the annual Potato Day Parade which takes place at 10:30 AM along Main Street and end in Sopris Park for Cowboy Coffee, a pit bar-b-q lunch, farmer and artisan market booths, KDNK Record Sale, live music, traditional games and a cornhole tournament.

Friday, October 3rd
5:00 PM – 9:00 PM – Carbondale Historical Society Membership Drive Kick-Off Party at True Nature, ticketed event
Saturday, October 4th
8:30 AM – 10:30 AM – Carbondale Rotary Club Pancake Breakfast
Location: Chacos Park (4th & Main Streets)
Cost: $10 regular, $15 for potato pancakes
8:00 AM – 9:30 AM – Aspen Valley Land Trust Pre-tato Promenade
Location: Coffman Ranch
Cost: FREE event but registration is required, contact Carly Bolliger at carly@avlt.org or 970-963-8440
9:00 AM – “Tater Trot” 1-Mile Fun Run
Location: Chacos Park, Registration begins 8:30 AM
Cost: FREE, Roaring 20s costumes encouraged! Top runners win sacks of potatoes
9:00 AM – 3:00 PM – Farmers Market, Family Activities & Cowboy Coffee
Location: Sopris Park
Cost: FREE and open to the public. Fresh produce, artisan goods, games,
activities with community partners and historical copper cauldron coffee.
10:30 AM – Potato Day Parade
Theme: “The Grate Spudsby” – Judges award prizes to Parade Floats based on theme relevance, originality, workmanship and crowd appeal. Pre-registration required, contact tkallassy@gcpld.org
11:15 AM – Until we run out of food – Community Harvest Lunch
Location: Sopris Park
Cost: $20 adults, $15 children under 12; Locally sourced and prepared meat and sides, and of course, potatoes.
1:00 PM – Parade Winners & Largest Potato Contest Announcements
11:00 AM – 4:30 PM – Live Music Programming
Location: Sopris Park Main Stage
Cost: FREE; Featuring KDNK DJ tribute to Art Ackerman (11-1), Lucky Drive (130-3) and live Contra Dance with Caller (3-430)
Harvest bar and non alcoholic drinks will be available by donation
Sunday, October 5th
10:00 AM – 2:00 PM – Youth Gymkhana
Location: Rodeo grounds at County Road 100
Cost: FREE and open to the public
