Mount Sopris
A must-do for anyone looking to spend the day hiking to the best view in the valley. This 13-mile hike is as tough as any 14er, complete with lakes, rock fields, and false summits.

Prince Creek
Prince Creek Road, just outside of Carbondale is a great destination for a quick bike ride on pavement and dirt. This trail provides access to great mountain biking, trail running, hiking, views, hunting and more.

Red Hill/Mushroom Rock
Right at the intersection of Highway 82 and 133 is a local favorite for a quick lunch-break hike with the dog, or a challenging mountain-bike trail system. The Red Hill Recreation Area is a series of short trails that lead to the Mushroom Rock overlook—a great hike and a great view of the Crystal and Roaring Fork Valleys.

Sunlight Mountain
Sunlight ski area offers great hiking in the summer to the summit. Also during the summer months the expansive cross-country ski trail system transforms into a prime destination for mountain bikers. More than 16 miles of marked trails wander through a woodland landscape that features aspen groves, wildflower meadows, ponds, stream crossings and sometimes grazing cattle. Don't be alarmed, just give them a holler and they'll kindly share the trail.

Thompson Creek Trail
This short but scenic trail is tucked away in Thompson Creek area west of Carbondale. The trail follows Thompson Creek and is great for a short hike, trail run, or a sport climbing escape as there are excellent routes tucked away.
