“From one year of social distancing to 50 years of socializing.”
It’s hard to believe that 50 years ago the Carbondale Mountain Fair came into being. Brought together by volunteers, lead by the Mother of the Fair, Laurie Loeb, the first few years hosted a traveling chautauqua, which quickly evolved into a locally-based, volunteer-run, non-sponsored festival that exemplifies the values of Carbondale; Collaboration, Creativity, Education, Volunteerism, Curiosity and Inclusion.
We will celebrate these values with a fair that will be memorable for all who attend in person or listen on the radio. The fair will spread out beyond its comfortable home of Sopris Park to allow for COVID friendly interactions, but the heart+soul of the fair will be all the love, history and humanity that have built community through art in Carbondale. Join us July 23–25th 2021 for this summertime tradition!
See schedule of events. All entertainment and events are subject to change. We recognize that at any moment all current plans could be cancelled. We are putting in every effort to remain flexible and adaptive. We are committed to the safety of the community.Find out more »

October 2nd, 2021
The 112th Carbondale Annual Potato Day celebration is set for Saturday October 2nd, 2021 in Sopris Park. This year’s theme is “Tuber Renaissance.” The potato is an underground tuber and renaissance means renewal. This year we celebrate our own renewal as we begin to emerge from the pandemic restrictions, like a potato tuber sending its leaves above ground to absorb the light.
The festival will include a parade down Main Street, booths and family activities in Sopris Park, along with the traditional community meal consisting of bbq’d beef, salad and of course, baked potato.
Potato Day is Carbondale’s oldest community event, originally a way for ranchers and farmers to celebrate the end of harvest season and come together to socialize and have fun. It still holds a special place in the heart of this community and in order to continue to preserve this cherished celebration, it needs the support of people like you.
There are FOUR ways for organizations and individuals to participate. Please see the flyer for more information or go to the Town of Carbondale website; Parks and Recreation Page. Thank you for making Potato Day happen!Find out more »
