First Friday “Light Up Carbondale”
December 1, 2017 @ 3:00 pm - 7:00 pm
What has 6 miles of wire, 682 rolls and strands, and 30,000 individual lights? What has the Carbondale Middle School Band playing your favorite holiday tunes into the dark night? What will cause the bearded man in the red suit to land his sleigh on Carbondale’s Main Street and to magically illuminate all of the trees? It can only be the annual “Light Up Carbondale” Event. The Town of Carbondale Recreation Department, Carbondale Arts and the Carbondale Chamber First Friday Committee would like to invite children and adults of all ages to help “Light up Carbondale” with their singing voices and smiles and to welcome Santa to town. “Light Up” Carbondale takes place on First Friday, December 1, 2017.
Youngsters can visit with Santa and give him their wish lists in the warmth of The Launchpad. Santa will be at the Launchpad from 3:00 until 7:00 pm. The Launchpad will also feature the cast from Sol Theater’s A Christmas Story performing some numbers from their upcoming show and holiday shopping at the Deck the Walls holiday market which will be open until 8 pm in the R2 Gallery.
Santa will take his sleigh to perform his magic and light up the trees and holiday lights on Main Street. Santa’s first stop with his sleigh will be at the large tree on Main Street & Weant Boulevard near the Forest Service building around 5:15 pm. “Oh Christmas Tree” will start the festivities and when everyone is in the spirit, Santa will light the tree.
This pedestrian parade will head down Main Street at 5:30 pm to the 4th St. Plaza. When Santa reaches the 4th St. Plaza the holiday spirit will reach its crescendo and Santa will make a proclamation and magically illuminate all the lights on Main Street. Mark Gray’s Carbondale Middle School Band will then perform some of their repertoire to welcome Santa in his Sleigh. Join Santa at the 4th Street plaza for the countdown, with cookies, hot chocolate, marsh mellow roasting at the bonfire and sing along caroling.
Enjoy the season, the bonfire and stroll around to the many shops, restaurants & art galleries that are part of the First Friday “Light Up” Carbondale Events.
Feel the Spirit.
