Celebrating 20 years of Ceramic Arts and the Carbondale Community:
Carbondale Clay Center 1997-2017
- Opening Reception: First Friday,September 1st, 6-8pm
- SETTINGS Anniversay Fete : Saturday, September 9th, 6-9pm
The Carbondale Clay Center opened it doors in 1997 with artist and educator Diane Kenney as founding Executive Director and Dan Trautman as Managing Director. With the help of community volunteers they transformed a 2,300 square foot cinder block building in a working ceramics studio and community center for the ceramic arts.
In January of 1998 the first weekly clay classes began. In the months and years to follow the Carbondale Clay Center grew to offer a full program of services including artist workshops, educational outreach, public art, a residency program and community events. Today the CCC exists as a highly valued organization in both the local community and the national ceramics community.
This month our gallery will exhibit a visual history of the birth and growth of the CCC from pre-1997 to the present. This is an homage to the visionaries and volunteers who built, maintained, expanded the center and inspired creativity within its walls.
The exhibition features work from the CCC’s permanent collection including pieces by Diane Kenney, Peg Malloy, Sandi Gardner, Albion Stafford, Steven Colby, Doug Casebeer, Alleghany Meadows and many more.
