-by The Post Independent, March 18, 2009

The Colorado Division of Wildlife (DOW) is reminding anglers in the Glenwood Springs area that annual spring fishing closures are now in effect through May 15.

Weekly Fishing Report - October 2, 2008
Stream closures began yesterday (October 1) and continue through November 30 on the following creeks and their inlets: Three and Four Mile Creeks on the Roaring Fork and Canyon, Grizzly and No Name Creeks on the Colorado. Fishing is prohibited 50 yards up and downstream of the creek inlets and ? mile upstream on the creeks themselves. There is still good action with hoppers and other big ugly dries on the larger rivers and the brown trout will start getting fairly aggressive and territorial in the coming weeks making for some excellent streamer fishing on most area streams and rivers.

Lower evening temperatures and shorter days are beginning have an effect on area fishing. Start later in the morning, and stay on the river longer into the afternoon. Grass Hoppers are everywhere, and golden stones are emerging on the ‘Fork and the Colorado. The Frying pan continues to fish strong with heavy pressure on the upper 2 miles of river.

Weekly Fishing Report - August 21, 2008
As summer wears on, most of the rivers and creeks continue to flow at healthy flows. Monsoonal rainstorms can cause some discoloration on most rivers, making it wise to check with your local fly shop after any rainy weather. Summer hatches are beginning to fizzle out, making way for great hopper and streamer action. The Frying Pan River hatches remain strong.

Weekly Fishing Report – July 24, 2008
The fishing conditions are ideal as summer wears on. Thundershowers can cause discoloration in the Roaring Fork and Colorado Rivers, so it’s always a good idea to check with the local flyshops for current conditions.

Weekly Fishing Report - July 17, 2008
While local rivers continue to run high, they are showing some positive signs. Fishing is really starting to pick up, especially along the banks in the slack water and large pockets. We’ve had reports of many overturned boats during the past two weeks, so floaters should take extra caution during the high water conditions. Low bridges, fallen trees, debris, etc. are all possible. Give yourself extra distance to maneuver, as the river is moving very quickly. On another positive note, many of the high country lakes have become accessible.
