Touted as one of “Top 12 Towns" in the "50 Next Great Places to Live and Play” by National Geographic Adventure Magazine, Carbondale is a great base camp for recreation enthusiasts. There is plenty to do including biking, kayaking, and world-class fly fishing. In winter, excellent cross-country skiing and snowshoeing can be found along any of the hiking trails, and downhill skiing is only a few miles away.

Carbondale's very active Recreation Department puts on special events, runs seasonal sports programs and field trips for children and adults, maintains the town's trails, parks (including the North Face skatepark) summer seasonal pool (located right downtown) and the new Carbondale Recreation & Community Center (CRCC). The 13,558 sq ft facility, located right next to Town Hall on 5th street and Colorado Avenue, has been awarded LEED certification (Leadership Energy & Environmental Design) and is powered by a photovoltaic solar plant on its roof. The state of the art facility has a full size gymnasium with, a 1,312 sq ft seven station, 32 ft. high climbing wall, with auto belay and lead route options. The facility also has a dedicated fitness area with free weights, numerous cardio strength machines, indoor cycling bikes and 17” televisions  attached to the recumbent & upright exercise bikes and to the treadmills and ellipticals.  Membership options include many fitness & wellness classes in the outdoor exercise room and in the gymnasium. The facility also boasts locker rooms and showers and a flex room that can be used for childcare while parents are using the facility.  Additional amenities include a full service catering kitchen to be used for birthday parties, special events and community meetings. When the weather is nice you can climb the challenging routes on our outdoor boulder. Membership rates are available for residents and non-residents by the month or yearly and day passes and punch passes are available to guests and visitors.  Stop by to visit the friendly staff at Carbondale's Recreation & Community Center, 567 Colorado Avenue, call (970) 704-4190, or click here for a look at the Town of Carbondale Recreation Brochure.
