CCC PARTNERS WITH TARGET Carbondale Clay Center announced a partnership with Target for sponsorship of its Project C.L.A.Y. (Connecting Learning And Youth). The initiative began in 2005, thanks to a grant from the Colorado Council on the Arts (CCA) in the amount of $3,800. The Center created a new community outreach opportunity for teachers and youth of the Roaring Fork Valley. With funding from Target, Project C.L.A.Y. will visit Jane Bryan’s class at Carbondale Middle School. Project CLAY, as described by grant writers Lauren Kearns and Lori Stott, “is a unique collaborative effort between the Carbondale Clay Center and schools in the Roaring Fork School District. The main objectives of Project C.L.A.Y. are to reinforce topics taught in the classroom through the use of ceramic arts, while exposing students to the world of ceramics by relating it to their studies. Project C.L.A.Y. is designed to compliment the established curriculum of elementary, middle and high school students.” Although the subjects and inspirations have varied, Project C.L.A.Y. supports one constant message: arts education is a valuable part of our cultural heritage. To cultivate it is to preserve one of our greatest and most endangered natural resources: the individual and collective imagination. For more information on Project C.L.A.Y. or other community outreach projects at the Carbondale Clay Center, call director Lauren Kearns at 963-2529.
