As a kid, I traveled around Colorado to watch various stages of the Red Zinger and Coors Bicycle classics. My best friend and I nearly came to blows at the bus stop when his favorite movie, "Kramer vs. Kramer," beat out mine, "Breaking Away," for the best-picture Oscar in 1979.

The Energy Resolutions Series, sponsored by the Community Office for Resource Efficiency (CORE) in Carbondale and other organizations, will include presentations by a number of speakers on saving money through energy efficiency and renewable energy.

Partnering for Success celebrates new facility in Carbondale

Glenwood Springs High School freshmen Andrew Mansfield and Andrew Gauldin were guitar heroes Monday night at the open house for the new Partnering for Success Center at the newly renovated Carbondale Middle School in Carbondale.  The building also houses Computers 4 Kids (C4K), Bridges High School, the Roaring Fork School District’s information services and the Carbondale Family Resource Center.

State of the Valley Report, Diversity is the key to economic success

The strength of the local economy is in its diversity. That message was delivered by experts on western economies who addressed participants at the State of the Valley Symposium presented by Carbondale-based Healthy Mountain Communities last Friday at the Hotel Colorado in Glenwood Springs. “More diverse economies are not only more resilient, they also grow faster,” said Ben Alexander, associate director of Headwaters Economics, a Montana-based nonprofit research group. The more dependent our economy is on the natural gas industry, the more vulnerable we are to forces outside the area, he said.

The Rio Grande Trail was awarded the Outstanding Community Tourism Initiative Award Wednesday evening at the awards dinner during Gov. Bill Ritter’s 2008 Colorado Tourism Conference held in Beaver Creek. The award was presented to the community recognizing its successful tourism initiative.
