The picturesque town of Carbondale is located 170 miles west of Denver, 30 miles from Aspen, and 12 miles from Glenwood Springs, in the heart of Colorado's central Rocky Mountains. At an altitude of 6,181 feet, and resting in the magnificent shadow of 12,953-foot Mt. Sopris, the Carbondale area is characterized by an average of 295 days of sunshine, low humidity, cold but mild winters and comfortable summers.

 Carbondale is trying to do its part to become one of the most sustainable communities in the country. This cozy mountain destination is quickly becoming a hotbed of green activity. The local economy is fueled by many thriving businesses and nonprofits that focus on sustainability.
When visiting Carbondale, shopping green can help reduce waste and protect our environment, conserve energy, water, and other resources.
Green businesses offer building materials, furniture, services and recycled products. Architects and world-renowned educational classes can be easily found here. The food scene has restaurants using local produce from valley suppliers in many of its dishes. A Mid-Valley Green Map was created to highlight sustainable businesses and helps visitors and locals to make healthier choices.
