The Carbondale Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors meets the second Thursday of every month at 8:00 a.m. in the Board Room at the Third Street Center.

President: Kiko Peňa, Sopris Liquor & Wine

Kiko moved to the valley with his wife Grace in April of 2006 from Laredo, Texas. They came in pursuit of a better life and in search a great place to start a family; they found both in Carbondale. They purchased Mi Casita Restaurant in 2006 and haven’t looked back since. Having successfully run Mi Casita for 8 years, they decided to double down and purchased Sopris Liquor & Wine in April of 2014. Kiko enjoys being part of such a great community and is a member of both the Chamber board and the Mt. Sopris Rotary Club. Kiko and Grace have two great kids: Kiko Jr. and Alexa. They love hanging together as a family, playing various sports and enjoying the outdoors.

Vice President: Kristin Garwood, Big Stone Publishing

Kristin feels very lucky to have lived in Colorado for the past 19 years and loves this state and the Roaring Fork Valley. She and her husband moved here six years ago after he accepted a position at Snowmass Village’s Fire Department. It’s the best move they have ever made. Participating in everything this valley has to offer is what makes Kristin tick, from skiing/snowboarding to enjoying the fantastic music and art scene. She feels very fortunate to be part of Carbondale, with its wonderful community spirit from Mountain Fair to Potato Day. Kristin has worked closely with a lot of Carbondale businesses and wants to help to keep Carbondale a growing and viable town.

Treasurer: Richard Fuller, Cornerstone Home Lending

Richard has been employed in the financial services industry for the past 18 years, all in the Roaring Fork Valley, working with local business owners and consumers for all of their financial needs. He grew up in Gunnison, attended Western State College and received a degree in Business with an emphasis in Small Business. He also has an MBA from the University of Montana. Richard made a career change just over a year ago to have a more flexible schedule in order to spend more time with his growing family. He is actively involved in the Carbondale Rotary Club, (Co)Studio, and 5Point Film, and believes the Chamber is a great supporter and promoter of the local business community, provides assistance in attracting new business, as well as provides value to visitors of our community.

Secretary: Donni Cochran, AFLAC/Donni Cochran Insurance

Donni Cochran has been a Carbondale Chamber member for many years and a volunteer on the Chamber Posse for about ten years. In her previous life, she was a management consultant. Donni holds a Master’s in Math and has an interest in operations research. She started out as a systems analyst for a government agency and moved onto a position in Human Resources for a large firm with five divisions encompassing different business types. She eventually went on to do this on her own, traveling throughout the US and Canada, designing and often writing computer systems. She retired to have a family. About ten years ago, Donni had a bad motor vehicle accident and found out how insurance can hurt or help. As a result of her research into the insurance industry, she realized she wanted to help others as well, and Aflac/Donni Cochran Insurance Services was born. She has lived in the valley for 25 years and loves everything about it. She lost both of her dogs in the last two years, so is always looking for a dog to walk/hug. She is also always volunteering for something!

Past President: Travis Stewart, Western Slope Materials, LLC

Travis has a deep appreciation for our town and its diversity of people and businesses. He is raising his own family here in Carbondale with his wife, Cresta. Travis believes that successful commerce is essential to thriving towns and is the result of relationships and hard work, two founding principles of this area. A University of Colorado at Boulder alumnus, Travis earned his undergraduate degree in Architectural Engineering and Environmental Design. He also has a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering from CU with a certificate in Applied Business.

Bob Albright, Edible Aspen

Bob is currently in advertising sales with the Aspen-based magazine, edibleASPEN. edibleASPEN publishes seasonally, with 4 issues a year. Bob is always on the lookout for great story ideas and advertisers who want to reach an audience in Aspen and the surrounding area.  He always looks forward to working with the Carbondale business community.

Erkko Alm, Alpine Bank

Erkko is originally from Finland, and his primary focus is lending. He went to school at the University of Colorado in Boulder and graduated with a degree in Marketing and International Business. Currently, Erkko serves on the Carbondale Council on Arts and Humanities (CCAH) Board. He enjoys serving on the Chamber Board because he wants to be part of making Carbondale a successful and fun community, and believes the Chamber contributes to that goal.

Jake Boyles, Crystal River Spas

Jake was born in Aspen Valley Hospital. His family trickled its way down valley and opened Crystal River Spas in Carbondale in 1988. Jake has been actively involved in retail since 2nd grade. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Advertising from Art Institute of California, San Diego, and has a wide variety of experience in fields ranging from excavation to graphic design. As a lifelong resident of Carbondale, he has had the unique opportunity to see the town develop and change from the inside out. Jake sees the Chamber as a wonderful avenue to give back to his community and help guide the evolution of Carbondale.

Kelly Flenniken, Xcel Energy

Kelly serves as Xcel Energy’s Area Manager for Colorado’s Western Slope. She is responsible for community and local government affairs, and furthering Xcel Energy’s commitment to being a strong and engaged community partner. Before joining Xcel, Kelly served as the Executive Director for the Grand Junction Economic Partnership (GJEP), the official economic development organization for Mesa County, Colorado. Currently, Kelly serves as Chair of the Economic Development Council of Colorado (EDCC). Her economic development experience is an asset for the Chamber Board. She also has experience in a variety of other areas, including tourism, marketing, and recreation.

Mike Hinkley, Mountain Waste & Recycling

Mike is the new District Manager for the newly-merged Mountain Waste & Recycling, which was formed from Intermountain Waste and Mountain Roll-Offs, Inc. (MRI). Prior to the merger, Mike was the Area Route Manager for Waste Management, and before that, he worked in the Roaring Fork Valley for about 13 years with Coors Distributing/Mountain Beverage Company. Mike’s interest as a member of the Chamber is to be more involved with local businesses, networking opportunities, business growth outlets, and to help promote quality growth for business managers and owners. He aims to give a voice to consumers, and encourages local businesses to act reputably, care about their customers, and get involved in this community.

Beth Maun, Rhumba Girl Liquors

Beth Maun currently owns Rhumba Girl Liquors with her husband Matt. She has lived in the Valley since 2000, and has worked in both public and private sector businesses. She was the Director of Employee Services for RFTA from 2000 to 2006. In 2003, she opened The Body Barn Fitness Center, where she provided personal training until 2013. In addition to running the day-to-day operations at Rhumba Girl, Beth is a substitute teacher in Carbondale. She is a strong supporter of the Carbondale Soccer Club, Dance Initiative, and the Carbondale Chamber.

Kelcey Nichols, Wood Nichols, LLC

Kelcey grew up in the Roaring Fork Valley and opened a law practice in Carbondale in 2012. Her practice focuses on providing sound legal advice to clients on real estate, business, and estate planning matters. Prior to practicing law, she worked at Backbone Media in Carbondale, and in publishing and website development in New York. Kelcey currently works with local property owners, businesses, and nonprofit corporations. In addition, she is leading a pro-bono project with the Acequia Project to help low-income community members in southern Colorado maintain their water rights. Kelcey is a graduate of the Roaring Fork Leadership program, a board member of CLEER (Clean Energy Economy for the Region), and a member of the Mt. Sopris Rotary Club. She obtained her law degree from the University of Washington School of Law, and is a graduate of Barnard College, Columbia University. Kelcey joined the Chamber in order to help our local businesses prosper and see Carbondale continue to establish itself as a wonderful place to live and work, stepping up as a leader among Colorado towns.

Lauri Rubinstein, Limitless Living Now, LLC

Friend. Advocate. Entrepreneur. Mother. Wife. Sister. Educator. Author. Athlete.

Lauri’s combination of these attributes, with more than 20 years of sales training and leadership in building a top-2% organization within a multibillion dollar direct sales company, allows her to inspire her clients to create the life they want. Graduating with a BA in Accounting, Lauri went on to earn her Professional Certified Coaching designation through the International Coaching Federation. In addition to coaching, Lauri dedicates her time to community involvement through Valley Divas, a women’s business network she founded, as well as other humanitarian organizations. She loves motivating and inspiring adults, business organizations, parent groups, and children through speaking engagements and training.

Tony Spires, ANB Bank

Tony Spires likes to make a difference in the lives of his clients and in his community. As Community Bank President of ANB Bank’s Carbondale location, he is developing new banking relationships, nurturing current bank relationships, and creating a friendly, knowledgeable banking environment. Tony brings over 8 years of banking experience and over 20 years of finance experience to lead the Carbondale bank team. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Nebraska at Kearney, and has completed courses at Marquette University. In addition to being a member of the Chamber Board, Tony participates in numerous local community charities and events through ANB Bank, and is member of the Chamber’s  Leads group. Tony has been married to Mindy Sisson-Spires for 16 years; when not working, they spend their time with their two daughters and harlequin Great Dane.

Tourism Council of Carbondale Liaison: Jared Ettelson, The Village Smithy

Jared moved to Carbondale in 1979. He spent a dozen years away at school and opening a dozen restaurants across the state. Jared has been on the Chamber Board and Tourism Council for 6 years and is the current Chairman of the Tourism Council. Between being an owner/manager of the Village Smithy and a partner in Bonfire Coffee, Jared works hard to find time to spend with his two teenage daughters and wife of 20 years. Jared received his degree in Commercial Tourism from Colorado State University in 1999 and is glad to be able to put it to use!

Frosty Merriott, Town of Carbondale Trustee/Liaison

Mr. Merriott received his B.S. in Accounting from Louisiana Tech University in 1971. He specializes in the areas of taxation, attestation, and accounting services for closely-held companies in the industries of insurance, financial services, medical services, oil and gas, real estate, construction, and manufacturing. Frosty, his wife Carly, and daughter Shiloh, live in Carbondale where they are members of the Church at Carbondale. Frosty presently serves as a trustee for the Town of Carbondale, and has previously served as a member of the Economic Roadmap Group, Carbondale Planning and Zoning Commission, the Board of Alpine Christian Academy, the Town Environmental Board, and The River Valley Ranch Executive Board. Frosty was named as a 2010 Everyday Hero by the Colorado Society of CPAs for the difference he makes in others’ lives.

Chamber Staff

Andrea Stewart, Executive Director/Marketing & Tourism and Member Services

  Andrea is a Wyoming native and has lived in the Roaring Fork Valley since spring 2008. She graduated from the University of Wyoming in 2007 with a degree in Communication and a minor in Marketing Communication. In 2011, she graduated from Colorado Mountain College with an Associate’s Degree in Resort Management & Hospitality. Prior to moving to the Roaring Fork  Valley, Andrea served as the Marketing Coordinator for the University of Wyoming Athletics Department. Andrea’s background includes advertising, marketing, public relations, and coaching youth sports. Andrea serves on a number of planning committees, including First Fridays Carbondale, Carbondale Creative Plan, Special Events Task Force, West Elk Loop Scenic and Historic Byway Steering Committee, Northwest Colorado Cultural Heritage Program, 2012 & 2016 Ride the Rockies, 2013 & 2015 Bicycle Tour of Colorado, and the 2014 US Pro Cycling Challenge. Outside of the office, Andrea enjoys running…lots of running. In fact, in 2015, she ran in the Boston Marathon. Andrea, her husband Danny, and their son Lucas enjoy hiking, fishing, skiing, traveling, cheering on the Wyoming Cowboys, and spending time with friends and family!  

Heather Beach, Office Manager

Heather Beach joins the Chamber staff with over 16 years of accounting and office management experience, having been the CFO of Beach Resource Management for 12 years before she and her husband sold the business in 2015. Heather also served as volunteer Treasurer for the Chamber for two years, and has several years of volunteer experience as treasurer for other nonprofits, including her church, Snowmass Chapel. A native Texan (born and raised in Houston), Heather attended The University of Texas at Austin, and graduated from UC Berkeley, where she was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa academic society. She enjoys skiing, hiking, gardening, and reading fiction in her spare time. Heather’s 2 adult children live outside Colorado, and she resides in Carbondale with her husband, Gary.  

Cailen Hollenback, Office Manager

Cailen has lived in this valley since 1991, and is the proud mother of four incredible kids. Having four kids definitely makes her a great multi-tasker. Cailen enjoys her time at the Carbondale Chamber and representing the community she lives in. Cailen is proud to say she helped start— and still continues to run—the Roaring Fork Lacrosse Club. She is incredibly organized, and volunteers for her kids in any way she can at the Carbondale Community School. When not at work, she enjoys being with her kids, taking photos, hiking, and skiing.
