Pitch your Tent
It goes without saying, Colorado's Base Camp has ... well ... great camping.
Carbondale offers lots of types of camping, from backcountry camping to dedicated sites, to family-friendly campgrounds. A couple of close-by favorites are Avalanche Creek Campground, just 10 minutes towards Redstone. Avalanche Creek is picturesque, easy to get to and can be great for a quick get-a-way, or beginning to a big back country adventure. A little further down WHY 133 is Bogen Flats, a great family campsite right on the Crystal River. Clean bathrooms, picnic tables, and of course grills for that rainbow trout. Another great camping destination is right outside of town in a local's favorite area, Thompson Creek. Take Main Street north through town until you are on Thompson Creek Road follow the road for XX miles until you reach an endless assortment of campsites. Don't forget your fly rod for those fighting "brookies".
For the best advice on where to camp, visit the local outdoor shops, or The U.S. Forest Service office in historic downtown Carbondale.
