Activities and Recreation
Touted as one of “Top 12 Towns" in the "50 Next Great Places to Live and Play” by National Geographic Adventure Magazine, Carbondale is a great base camp for recreation enthusiasts.
There is plenty to do including biking, kayaking, and world-class fly fishing. In winter, excellent cross-country skiing and snowshoeing can be found along any of the hiking trails, and downhill skiing is only a few miles away.
Carbondale's very active Recreation Department puts on special events, runs seasonal sports programs and field trips for children and adults, maintains the town's trails, parks (including the North Face skatepark) summer seasonal pool (located right downtown) and the new Carbondale Recreation & Community Center (CRCC).
