Outdoors in Carbondale Happy June! Touted as one of "The Top 10 Adventure Towns in the U.S." by National Geographic Adventure Magazine, Carbondale is a great base camp for outdoor enthusiasts. If you are looking for phenomenal views, you can enjoy charming bed & breakfasts and rustic cabins or pitch your tent along the banks of the Crystal River and other great spots recommended by the U.S. Forest Service's local office. Enjoying the Old West outdoor experience wouldn't be the same without some genuine Colorado horseback riding. From carriage rides to backcountry trips, there is something for riders at all levels. Most outfitters run from May through September, depending on the weather and the trail conditions. In the Carbondale area you can also find wildlife while participating in another activity, such as hiking, biking, sightseeing, or fishing. Heading into the mountains or valleys to watch wildlife is fun and you can see deer, black bears, eagles, and flocks of birds just around the corner.
